About this opportunity:

We are seeking to appoint a Deputy Medical Director to support the delivery of the Royal College of Physicians’ Invited Reviews service.

This clinically led consultancy supports NHS organisations where concerns have been raised about individual clinicians or services. You will support the medical director in reviewing requests, undertaking and in time chairing formal reviews, and quality assuring reports to ensure that recommendations are clear, achievable and evidence-based.

You must be a practising physician, a fellow of the RCP in good standing, and have experience of working in senior leadership roles. You will be able to work collaboratively, provide professional and considered feedback, and help the service maintain its strong reputation with external stakeholders.

The role is ad hoc and you will need to be available for around 10 -14 full days per year, with a mix of onsite and remote work as required. Some UK travel will be necessary.

For further details, please see the role description.

How to apply:

Application is via a short CV and cover letter addressed to Dr Adam de Belder, medical director for Invited Reviews. The cover letter should clearly set out how you fulfil the person specification and how you would approach the role, including identifying time in your job plan.

Please return applications to recruitment@rcp.ac.uk by 23:59 on 14 September 2025. Please clearly state the role you are applying for in the subject line of your email.

Selection process:

As part of the selection process, shortlisted candidates will be invited to attend two interviews:

  • a competency-based panel interview, scheduled to take place on 9 October 2025 (provisional); and
  • a values-based panel interview, with the date to be confirmed.

Interviews will take place online via Microsoft Teams.

Further information:

If you would like to discuss the role prior to applying, please contact either Dr de Belder, Medical director for IRs or Jazz Sidhu, Head of invited reviews, or the Executive director for Membership Support and Global Engagement, Matthew Foster. All can be contacted via: invitedreviews@rcp.ac.uk.
