Job title: National Hip Fracture Database (NHFD) orthogeriatric clinical lead

Appointment: 2 years fixed term, plus optional (and maximum) 3 additional years on completion of successful annual reviews, in line with wider FFFAP contracting cycles.

Salary: £12,000 per annum for 1PA per week, back paid to employer

Working arrangements: Remote working. Flexible hours with time negotiated during the working week. 


This is an opportunity to provide clinical leadership to the prestigious National Hip Fracture Database (NHFD), part of the Falls and Fragility Fracture Audit Programme (FFFAP) and commissioned by the Healthcare Quality Improvement Partnership (HQIP). Established in 2007, the NHFD now contains over one million cases and is in a unique position to inform and transform hip fracture care; an extra 8,435 people have now survived the injury over the years since the NHFD was set up.

 

The successful candidate will work in partnership with the NHFD project team, NHFD surgical clinical lead, FFFAP programme management and clinical leads for the other two FFFAP workstreams - Fracture Liaison Service Database (FLS-DB) and the National Audit of Inpatient Falls (NAIF) - to drive improvements in hip fracture care through high-quality data and stakeholder engagement.

 

The successful candidate will be invited to take this role as clinical lead-elect from January 2026, in preparation for starting the full role in July 2026.

 

Purpose and scope

Key responsibilities

  • Provide strategic and clinical leadership for the NHFD workstream
  • Deliver high quality and impactful annual reporting
  • Engage with the clinical community to support data-driven healthcare improvements. 
  • Ensure alignment with patient needs, regulatory requirements, and contractual obligations. 
  • Collaborate with other clinical leads and stakeholders to deliver impactful outcomes. 

About you

You will be a consultant-level doctor or equivalent allied health professional with: 

  • Clinical experience in fragility fracture care. 
  • A strong background in quality improvement and audit. 
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills. 
  • Experience working with national or regional healthcare programmes
  • A collaborative and strategic mindset. 
  • A member of the Royal College of Physicians (or equivalent), and in good standing with your employer, GMC and RCP.
