Job title: National Audit of Inpatient Falls (NAIF) clinical lead

Contract type: 2 years fixed term, plus optional (and maximum) 3 additional years on completion of successful annual reviews, in line with wider FFFAP contracting cycles.

Compensation: Maximum £12,000 per annum for equivalent 1PA per week, back paid to employer.

Working arrangements: Remote working. Flexible hours with time negotiated during the working week. 

This is an opportunity to provide clinical leadership to the prestigious National Audit of Inpatient Falls (NAIF) ,part of the Falls and Fragility Fracture Audit Programme (FFFAP) and commissioned by the Healthcare Quality Improvement Partnership (HQIP). Established in 2019, the NAIF is a clinically led audit focused on inpatient falls prevention care and post-fall management across acute, mental health, community, and specialist trusts in England and Wales. As of January 2025, it has expanded to include patients aged 65 or older who have sustained any fracture, spinal injury, or head injury as a result of an inpatient fall. The initiative aims to enhance inpatient falls prevention and post-fall care through auditing and quality improvement efforts.

The successful candidate will work in partnership with the NAIF project team, FFFAP programme management and clinical leads for the other two FFFAP workstreams - Fracture Liaison Service Database (FLS-DB) and the National Hip Fracture Database (NHFD)- to drive improvements in inpatient falls prevention through high-quality data and stakeholder engagement.

The successful candidate will be invited to start this role in July 2026.

Purpose and scope

Key responsibilities

  • Provide strategic and clinical leadership for the NAIF workstream
  • Deliver high quality and impactful annual reporting
  • Engage with the clinical community to support data-driven healthcare improvements
  • Ensure alignment with patient needs, regulatory requirements, and contractual obligations
  • Collaborate with other clinical leads and stakeholders to deliver impactful outcomes. 

About you

You will be a consultant level specialist or within 6 months of final consultant training or equivalent allied health professional with: 

  • Clinical experience in fragility fracture care. 
  • A strong background in quality improvement and audit. 
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills. 
  • Experience working with national or regional healthcare programmes
  • A collaborative and strategic mindset. 
  • A member or fellow of the Royal College of Physicians (or equivalent), and in good standing with your employer, GMC and RCP.
