Contract type: Voluntary - Up to a maximum of 5 years, subject to annual appraisal, and commencing 1 April 2027.

Compensation: This role is not remunerated. The RCP offers a ‘clinician release supplement’ to the employer towards the cost of backfilling roles of up to £30,000 per annum.

Working hours: Up to 3 days per week.

Working arrangements: The role holder must be based in the UK and is expected to work flexibly to meet the requirements of the role. This will include a mix of remote and on-site working (in both Liverpool and London), and elsewhere as required. Overnight stays may be required to support events (to be agreed in advance).

Role Profile

This role will be hosted in our Operations business unit. The Operations business unit was established to support delivery of the RCP’s strategic ambitions. It has primary responsibility for strategic priority 4 in the RCP’s strategy 2026–30, building organisational resilience and achieving responsible growth.

The unit has a key responsibility for ensuring that the RCP remains relevant, influential and financially sustainable in an increasingly complex external environment. It is home to the RCP’s people and culture, archives & museums, finance, IT, procurement and estates teams.

As Treasurer you will be one of the senior officers and an RCP trustee. You will discharge the duties required by charity law and the RCP byelaws, and undertake ceremonial duties.

Directly responsible to the president, you will work with the president, registrar, vice president for education and training, academic vice president, clinical vice president, global vice president, vice president for Wales and executive colleagues as part of the senior RCP team.

You will agree a work plan from time to time with the president, being mindful of the RCP’s strategy, annual operational plans and budgets, and availability of resource among clinical colleagues, the wider staff team, and the RCP itself.

Your primary responsibilities in this role will be:

  • Provide financial leadership and strategic oversight to the RCP.
  • Serve as a Trustee and contribute to effective Board governance.
  • Lead the development of sustainable financial plans and reserves strategies.
  • Oversee financial performance, risk management and regulatory compliance.
  • Partner with senior leaders to support the delivery of the RCP's strategic objectives.
  • Represent and promote the RCP's vision, values and interests internally and externally.
  • Lead and develop high-performing teams aligned to organisational priorities.
  • Ensure sound financial controls, policies and procedures are maintained.
